Combat

This program is now removed from the web site to make room for my new driving Top Gear simulator. Copies of it should still be available on some 'free' software sites . A search for 'muddleglum' usually finds one.
It was made to enjoy a feeling of flying over an extensive landscape, while the 'combat' consisted of pursuing and shooting down a similar aircraft.
The movements of the enemy were random changes of direction, adjusted so as to be more challenging to follow. It had no intelligence , and I was going to try to add it so as to make things more interesting, rather than purely realistic.
( With realism you can end up in endless pursuit or avoidance of a nearly out of sight opponent. In real life, with an all round view, that might be all right, but not on a limited computer screen. I tried the usual turning of the 'pilot view' but found it unsatisfactory, and so added a trial 'view towards target' as a possibility. You really need a full set of monitors around the 'pilot' with several linked computers giving a minimum 200 degree range of view. Or ... new idea, a specially designed and made simulator projection type screen, - onto a curved surrounding surface - that could be used with an expanded Field of View setting in the program. There would be speed loss but excellent view)There is still a chance that the program will be updated to a fully intelligent combat game. Some work has been done on that.
